Individual insurance: The policy covers minors not living in the same household, including godchildren. The minors are travelling with you and without their parents. You are responsible for the minors during the trip.
Family insurance: The policy covers children, provided they live in the same household, and minors who do not live in the same household, for example godchildren. If your children have already left home, they can only be included in the family insurance up to the age of 25.
Travel insurance protects you against unexpected problems and their financial consequences during a trip or excursion in Switzerland and around the world.
You become ill or have an accident? Travel cancellation insurance or international health insurance pays your cancellation and treatment costs. Having a legal dispute with your car hire company? Rental vehicle deductible insurance or motorists’ legal protection insurance are handy in that case. Maybe your luggage gets stolen or arrives damaged. This is where your luggage insurance will get you new or replacement luggage items. And these are only a few examples.
Taking out travel insurance with Generali gets you round-the-clock assistance and financial help. So your trip doesn’t end abruptly and you can relax and just enjoy your time away.
When should I take out travel insurance?
As a rule, travel insurance is always worthwhile if you travel a lot – whether abroad or in Switzerland. Cancellation insurance is particularly useful if you go on one or two expensive trips a year. Depending on the provider, you could otherwise end up having to pay any cancellation costs yourself. But you can also benefit from cancellation cover if you regularly attend concerts in Switzerland: tickets for events are also covered. Make sure to take out the travel cancellation insurance before the insured event takes place.
Travel insurance applies as of the start date specified in your policy. Trips that you have booked before this date are insured. However, you must have taken out the travel cancellation insurance module before the insured event, for example illness, occurs. If you are already ill and it is clear that you cannot travel as planned the next day, it is too late to take out travel insurance. In this case, the cancellation costs for your trip will not be covered.
Depending on which health insurance coverage you have, your protection abroad could be sufficient – but it may not. Generali’s personal assistance makes sure you get treatment where you are staying if you need it and that you can return safely to Switzerland without having to pay expensive treatment costs.
However, it is important that you have health insurance from a Swiss health insurance company in Switzerland. Our personal assistance is not a replacement for this type of insurance. Our personal assistance insurance provides coverage for things not covered by your regular health and accident insurance.
It is worth taking out the personal assistance insurance if you have not already taken out many supplementary insurance policies through your health insurance company. The insurance is particularly useful if you are travelling with the whole family.
You will be covered in all areas where the International Insurance Card is valid.
If you hire a vehicle in Switzerland or abroad, the rental vehicle contract often already includes rental vehicle insurance. This means you are covered for any damage. Most of these insurances have a high deductible. This is where we help with our deductible insurance for rental cars and other rented vehicles such as bikes, boats or motorhomes.
Your luggage could easily be lost or damaged by a transport company. In this case, luggage insurance will cover all of the associated costs.
The insurance for your baggage covers the replacement cost at the time of the loss. In addition, we cover the costs for urgently needed replacement purchases if your luggage is delayed.
Travel legal protection helps you in disputes related to a booking, for example for accommodation. Motorists' legal protection supports you in the event of disputes resulting from an accident or if you are having your driver’s licence suspended. We provide you with legal information over the phone and cover the lawyer’s fees, court costs and costs of proceedings.
Whenever you are on the road, having motorists' legal protection insurance pays off. Our experts in motorists’ legal protection support you, for example, in criminal proceedings following a traffic accident or driver’s licence suspension.
Yes, Covid is an illness, so it is covered like any other illness. This also applies to all other illnesses caused by a pandemic or epidemic. We cover cancellation costs, but only if you were fit to travel when you booked the trip.
If you have purchased personal assistance, your travel insurance also covers any quarantine costs resulting from an illness. We will cover the costs of all required treatment and measures. This includes costs for extending a trip, repatriation or accompanying minors back to their home.
Please note: This coverage applies to illnesses. It does not, for example, cover the following travel cancellation scenarios:
If you have to go into quarantine because you have Covid, we will pay the additional costs for extending your trip, provided you have purchased the personal assistance insurance as a basic module.
However, if you are not ill but still have to go into quarantine, we will not pay the additional costs. This is because in that case, the quarantine is the result of an official order, which is not covered by the insurance.
