PREVENTION
Prepare properly to minimise any risk of damage.
Hail, storms and flooding: We are powerless against the forces of nature. To minimise damage caused during a storm, it is vital to be properly prepared. We show you what you need to consider protecting yourself, your loved ones and your belongings.
The earlier you know about an imminent storm, the better. Obtaining information early enough is the vital key to preventing damage. It’s the only way to give you enough time to keep yourself, your loved ones and your home and garden safe. There are a number of weather apps you can use to be notified about current weather events by means of push messages.
If a storm is approaching you must act quickly. Whether it’s hail, wind or thunderstorms, pull up all sun blinds and close doors and windows. Make sure that rain gutters and water drains remain clear.
Gardens tend to contain a lot of loose objects. Loungers or trampolines may seem stable at first glance, but if they start to move they become dangerous projectiles. Make sure to secure them particularly well or bring them indoors.
Bicycles and cars should also be kept in a garage or hail-proof shelter. Under no circumstances park a car under a tree, as falling branches can severely damage the vehicle.
Generali tip: If damage has occurred despite all precautionary measures, report it immediately to your motor, household or building insurance company and ask them to explain how to proceed. Depending on the extent of the damage, an assessment will be made by a damage inspector. Be sure to take photographs of the damage before cleaning up and create a list of the damaged items.
