Volunteer work and social commitment.

Sandra talks about her work on International Volunteer Day.

At Generali, employees can dedicate one working day per year to volunteer work. Sandra took advantage of this opportunity in 2024 and got involved with The Human Safety Net Switzerland. She talks about her assignments on International Volunteer Day.

Sandra, you have already taken on many different assignments for The Human Safety Net Switzerland, for example with Capacity and organising the THSN Charity Cup. Which tasks have you taken on this year?

Actually, this year was the first time I got involved with The Human Safety Net Switzerland and I have already carried out several activities during this time. The biggest challenge was organising the THSN Charity Cup non-profit sports tournament in June, which I set up together with colleagues from Generali.

At the end of last year, I also registered as a coach with our partner organisation Capacity. Capacity helps people with refugee and migrant backgrounds to find jobs in Switzerland. As a coach, I support my coachees with their job applications to help them gain a foothold in the Swiss labour market. I’m familiar with Capacity through my volunteer work with them, but also through my job, because Generali has a partnership with Capacity. We try to hire talent directly from Capacity ourselves.

What did you learn from taking on these assignments?

In my role as a Capacity coach, I helped and supported two people who were looking for work in Switzerland. I found it very rewarding to support them and, ideally, to help them integrate into the Swiss job market.

Organising the THSN Charity Cup was a completely different kind of assignment, but equally fulfilling. We raised more than CHF 23,000 at the THSN Charity Cup last June. Our partner organisations distribute this money to families in difficult situations. In addition to the financial success, the event also means a lot to me personally. I was very happy to work together with colleagues from different departments at Generali for a good cause. Together, we organised a great day with a great atmosphere, and encouraged many employees to collect donations through sporting activities.

What motivates you to take time off for your assignments each year?

I really want to help people and try to get involved whenever possible. Even doing a little can have a big impact. Helping others is one of my personal values. It’s in my nature. When I applied to Generali, the section about the foundation caught my eye on the website. This added value was one of the reasons why I applied here. I think it’s great that we can use one work day per year to volunteer. I’ll definitely be doing it again next year.
