For an equal start in life.

We empower parents to create a better future for their children.

Early education plays a crucial role in preventing poverty. Our programmes support parents of children up to the age of six living in difficult family situations. Together with our partner organisations, we offer parenting advice and show families how they can encourage play-based learning at home. This support is provided during home visits, in a play and activity space or at family centres. Our ongoing goal is to promote early childhood development and equal opportunities, so that all children can start kindergarten and school on an equal footing.

Programme 1: Home visits

Play, learn, grow. The schritt:weise (step by step) programme from a:primo supports families living in difficult circumstances through home visits and group meetings over a period of 18 months. Alongside supporting the child’s development at home, the focus is on improving parenting skills and helping families to build social networks.

Programme 2: Play space

Getting crafty, trying things out, discovering the world with all the senses. Learning through play and interacting with others is not only fun, it’s also highly beneficial for the brain. The MegaMarie space for play, crafts and interaction provided by the Marie Meierhofer Institute for Children (MMI) takes parents and children up to the age of six on a daily voyage of discovery.

Programme 3: Family centres

We want more disadvantaged parents and children to be able to benefit from inspiring opportunities. MegaMarieplus is a hands-on programme based on scientific findings designed to empower family centres. It was created by the Marie Meierhofer Institut für das Kind in collaboration with the Netzwerk Bildung und Familie and the support of The Human Safety Net.
